Implant Dentures Marietta, GA

Implant dentures are a popular tooth replacement option that many dentists are recommending. They come with an array of benefits that many other replacement options do not have. When undergoing a consultation appointment regarding implant dentures, having questions ready will be helpful when preparing for the appointment and the possible tooth replacement process.

Questions to ask at an implant dentures appointment

Outlined below are a few good questions to ask a dentist during an implant dentures consultation appointment.

1. How long will the process take?

Asking the dentist about the expected timeline is important because it allows the patient to know what to expect before beginning the implant dentures process. Knowing what to expect as far as timing can be helpful for planning purposes. The implant dentures process can be lengthy and involved.

Patients should expect to undergo a surgical procedure in which the implants are placed. After placement, there is a period of osseointegration, which can take a long time, up to six months. Even after osseointegration, there is still a period of at least a month before the implant dentures process is complete. During the last month, the patient should expect to visit the dentist a couple of times. A denture fitting appointment will take place, and then the patient will return a few weeks later to have the dentures and abutments attached.

2. Will there be any pain or discomfort?

Another important question to ask the dentist is whether there will be any pain or discomfort involved. Implant dentures do require a non-invasive procedure, which can cause slight discomfort during the recovery period. However, dentists can remedy any discomfort through pain management medications.

3. What will recovery be like?

Each patient is different, which means their recovery from implant placement may vary. Implant dentures do require a lengthy recovery process, sometimes of up to six months. Past that timeline, it is important to know what to expect from recovery, such as how difficult it might be or how to adjust appropriately. Diet changes may be required, as well as a break from work or school.

4. Are there any risks to be aware of?

When considering implant dentures, it is also a good idea to ask the dentist about any associated risks. Being aware of the risks beforehand can be helpful when considering the process. Each patient may be at risk for different things, whether an increased risk of infection or a longer recovery. The dentist can perform an evaluation to determine if there are any risks, which can be outlined prior to the implant denture process.
