Why Dental Aesthetics
Dental aesthetics is more popular than ever. This field encompasses both the cosmetic appearance and functionality of the mouth, including the teeth and gums. Popular dental aesthetics procedures involve bonding, braces, bridges, crowns, enamel shaping and contouring, implants, teeth whitening, veneers, and other cosmetic periodontal procedures.
Though any smile makeover will focus primarily on improving aesthetics, many procedures may also improve the overall functionality and health of the mouth - especially when the procedures are restorative in nature. Furthermore, cosmetic dental procedures can positively affect patients' self-esteem. This may increase their overall quality of life.

Tooth Whitening and Restoration
Teeth whitening is the most popular cosmetic dentistry treatment. The most effective way to whiten teeth is under the supervision of a dental professional. General dentists use medical-grade bleaching ingredients to remove stains and help teeth appear whiter and brighter without harming the teeth like abrasive and ineffective over-the-counter options.
Another option to improve dental aesthetics is through restoration procedures. There are various types of restorations, including fillings, crowns, implants, dentures, inlays, onlays, and bridges. These restoration procedures can improve the appearance and functionality of damaged teeth. Since each patient is different, procedures and materials are selected on an individual basis to ensure they are safe.

Gum Related Issues
People may also suffer from various gum-related issues that worsen their dental aesthetics. Gum disease can cause unsightly swollen and inflamed gums that can lead to tooth decay and even tooth loss when left untreated. Fortunately, general dentists can identify the early stages of gum disease and treat patients before it worsens and becomes more difficult to treat.
Additionally, general dentists can also help people who have gums that rest too low or too high on teeth. This can negatively impact dental aesthetics as teeth may appear too long or too short. In these cases, patients can benefit from cosmetic procedures such as gum reshaping to even out the gum line and improve the appearance of their smile.

Orthodontic Procedures
Some dentists may offer certain orthodontic treatments in addition to general dental services. Typically, only dentists who have taken continuing education seminars and gained additional experience can provide orthodontic procedures. They may offer braces or aligners to move teeth and help patients achieve straighter, more attractive smiles. Orthodontic treatment from a dentist offers both aesthetic and functional benefits.
Straight teeth are not only easier to clean and use but also more pleasant for people to see. Orthodontic procedures can guide crooked, crowded, protruding, and gapped teeth into alignment. Addressing orthodontic issues with a dentist can help eliminate feelings of insecurity so that people can smile with confidence. A study in the Angle Orthodontist found that orthodontic treatment gave study participants psychological benefits, such as a significant increase in self-esteem.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q. How does teeth whitening improve dental aesthetics?
A. Teeth whitening occurs through the use of peroxide-based bleaching agents. Whitening treatments from a dental professional are more effective and safer than over-the-counter whitening systems. There are various professional teeth whitening methods, from in-office treatment to take-home kits. People who are interested in whitening their teeth should contact us for information about our available options.
Q. Is teeth whitening painful?
A. Teeth whitening is not painful. However, it can cause some temporary discomfort from temperature sensitivity. People should have teeth whitening under professional supervision to ensure safe treatment.
Q. What filling materials do general dentists use?
A. General dentists may provide amalgam fillings or composite fillings. Many patients prefer composite fillings as they are a more aesthetically pleasing alternative. They consist of a safe resin material that is tooth-colored and blends in with natural teeth.
Q. How do veneers improve dental aesthetics?
A. Veneers are thin, tooth-colored coverings placed over the front of teeth. They can improve the aesthetics of chipped, discolored, disproportionately sized, or broken teeth. Placing veneers can result in a more even and symmetrical smile.
Q. How do braces work?
A. Braces are an orthodontic appliance that correct misaligned teeth and jaws. They apply steady, gentle pressure on teeth to move them into alignment over time. There are various types of braces available depending on the patient's preferences and orthodontic needs. People should contact our team for more information about our available orthodontic options.
