Reasons That Implant Dentures Are a Convenient Solution to Tooth Loss

Implant dentures are a long-term solution to tooth loss that involves placing dental implants into the jawbone and attaching permanent dentures to the implants. One reason so many general dentists recommend implant dentures to their patients is because of the convenient benefits they provide.

Convenient benefits of implant dentures

There are a range of oral health, cosmetic and functional benefits that implant dentures offer. Several of the more convenient benefits that implant dentures provide patients include fewer food restrictions, an easier oral care routine each day, unmatched durability and the ability to interact socially without them coming loose or falling out.

Fewer food restrictions

One major benefit of implant dentures is that there are fewer food restrictions. When compared to traditional dentures, patients with implant dentures can eat more freely without worrying about there dentures coming loose or having a hard time biting and chewing.

With implant dentures, patients can eat the same as they would with natural teeth, including foods such as corn on the cobb, tougher meats (steak, pork chops, etc.), chicken wings and much more. Of course, eating a diet that is low in sugar and other carbohydrates is encouraged to maintain good oral health, but the ability to eat most foods is certainly an option with implant dentures.

Easy to care for implant dentures

Patients care for their implant dentures the same as they would natural teeth. This includes brushing several times each day, flossing regularly and using mouthwash. The key to longevity from implant dentures is good periodontal health. This means ensuring gum disease is prevented and protecting the underlying bone. Regular dental visits are essential with implant dentures (every four to six months), although oral care overall requires far less maintenance than traditional dentures. Traditional dentures are removable, so they require removing them and cleaning them regularly, which is not applicable to implant dentures.

Unmatched durability and longevity

Dental implants are fixed into the jaw bone and go through a process known as osseointegration, which involves the fusion of the titanium post and the natural bone. Once this occurs, it creates a strong and more natural support for the dentures, which are permanently fixed onto the implants. This allows the implant dentures to last for more than fifteen years, and in some instances, they last for over twenty-five years with proper care.

No fear of the dentures falling out

A major concern patients have with traditional dentures is the fear that they may fall out while interacting socially, during a meal or during physical activity. This is not a concern with implant dentures as they are supported by the jawbone and feel and function essentially just the same as natural teeth.
